“It’s been a crazy ride.”
Byron Bay-based singer-songwriter Tones & I has officially rewritten ARIA chart history with global megahit Dance Monkey.
The track has placed at #1 on the ARIA Singles chart for its 16th-straight week, and, as such, now holds the record for the longest streak on the chart in its entire history.
The record was previously held by Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You, which spent 15 weeks on top in 2017.
Tones & I also holds onto #1 on the UK Singles chart for a seventh week with Dance Monkey.
“Thank you so much Australia for the love and support around my career and single Dance Monkey,” Tones & I told The Music.

“It’s been a crazy ride watching what this song has done, but now to break the Aussie record is just a huge achievement. An Aussie now holds the ARIA chart record – thanks!”
Tones & I’s management, Lemon Tree Music and Artists Only, added: “We're absolutely thrilled for Tones and to see a song connect with people like this is truly humbling. Tones has had so many great wins in the past few months, but breaking this long-standing ARIA record is a big one!
“There's a lot coming up internationally and plenty of amazing music in the works, but we'll all enjoy this moment and cherish it for a long time to come. Thank you Australia!"
Meanwhile, Tones & I's other hit single, Never Seen The Rain, holds steady at #10 on the ARIA Single chart, while Arizona Zervas’ Roxanne debuts at #5.
Over on the Albums chart, Kanye West's reign at #1 with Jesus Is King has ended, with the LP dropping to #6 as US songwriter and country artist Luke Combs debuts at #1 with his second record, What You See Is What You Get, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Ghosteen re-enters at #2.
Other Albums chart debuts this week come from the Last Christmas soundtrack (#7), Six60's Six60 (8), The Script's Sunsets & Full Moons (#11), FKA Twigs' Magdalene (#22) and Doja Cat's Hot Pink (#30).
