Birds Of Tokyo — Brace (EMI)
Well, talk about being all over the place all of a sudden. Birds Of Tokyo's new effort, Brace, is this week's Feature Album on triple j, has a national tour set to kick off in a fortnight and has critics raving over its lusciously dark contents. Plus, we were generously granted access to some exclusive and pretty damn beautiful behind-the-scenes photos from the making of the album by photographer Mclean Stephenson.
Client Liaison — Diplomatic Immunity (Dot Dash/Remote Control)
Throwback specialists Client Liaison keep up their "relentless lampooning of the (in)glorious excess of the 1980s" with their eagerly awaited debut long-player. It comes off the back of an extended period of hype-building for the celebrated duo, and the production has quality pouring off it "in spades", our reviewer says, though the appeal has its limits: "Thematically, it's thin but fun." We gave it three stars.
Mel Parsons — Drylands (MGM)
Hoo boy, Mel Parsons has stumped up a good'un with Drylands. How do we know? We premiered it, that's how. Not only that, but we were lucky enough to score premiere rights to the Kiwi songstress' brilliant video for her track Don't Wait, featuring iconic vocalist Ron Sexsmith. It's damn fine, and well worth your time.
