"We’re finally going to put it out. Prince’s people agreed – almost too easy."
The Jack White co-owned Third Man Records has today announced it is set to release a shelved Prince album from 1986, titled Camille.
The LP, which was set for release years ago but abandoned shortly after a test pressing, will be issued under Prince’s feminine alter-ego “Camille”, as was originally intended.
Camille was the result of Prince experimenting with shifting the pitch of his vocals, and while he never released the album under the moniker of the same name, test pressings have circulated over the years, one of which was reportedly purchased by Jack White for $US49,375 to show Prince’s Estate they “had some skin in the game” when seeking approval for the release, as the singer told Mojo.
Camille's eight tracks have been officially released throughout Prince's career, including Strange Relationship, Housequake and If I Was Your Girlfriend on the tracklist of Sign O' The Times.
Other previously released tracks include Feel U Up, Good Love, Shockadelica and Rockhard In A Funky Place.
Third Man co-founder Ben Blackwell stated: “We’re finally going to put it out, Prince’s people agreed — almost too easy.”
