'The Voice' Australia Contestant Launches Defamation Lawsuit

Chrissy Ashcroft is taking action against the network and a website.

A contestant on last year's season of The Voice Australia is taking legal action against the Nine network and a military-themed website.

As The Australian reports, the Australia and New Zealand Military Imposters website has alleged that 2016 participant and Afghanistan war veteran Crissy Ashcroft exaggerated her war experiences during her time on the show, which media outlets associated with Nine later republished (there is no suggestion that Nine was involved in the defamation of Ashcroft).

Ashcroft has denied the website's allegations and is suing both it and Nine for defamation.

Ashcroft, who was medically discharged from the army last year, reportedly attempted to have the information removed from the website and offered to show proof to the operators.

A Nine spokeswoman said the network was only notified of Ashcroft's intentions on Tuesday and has not had time to consider how to respond.
