More The Simpsons The Simpsons

As the voice of Springfield Elementary School fourth grade teacher Edna Krabappel, actress Marcia Wallace was a huge part of the groundbreaking and hugely successful cartoon and pop culture phenomenon The Simpsons. Sadly today we hear news of her passing at the age of 70.

In the 1970s Wallace was a regular on The Merv Griffin Show and it was those appearances that led to her being cast as Carol Kester on popular '70s sitcom The Bob Newhart Show - a role specifically developed for her.

Guest appearances on a range of sitcoms and TV dramas as well as plenty of appearances on different television game shows was the extent of her TV career through the 1980s before she joined the cast of The Simpsons in 1990, remaining in the role of Krabappel until now.

Wallace had suffered from breast cancer earlier in her life and was a proud survivor and advocate for the early detection of cancer. It is reported that she passed away from unrelated illness and was cancer free at the time of her death.

We will never forget that iconic laugh.
