Emerging alt-rock band The Kickons have been announced as the winner of RAC Arena’s 2024 Limelight music support fund package, taking home over $20,000 in funding to boost their music endeavours.

An initiative designed to champion Western Australian musicians, Limelight has just finished up its third year of support, previously having platformed singer-songwriter Angie Colman and electronic pop group Alter Boy. Growing with the times, the program now awards over $20,000 in financial and industry support to up-and-coming talent.

The Kickons were selected by a panel of esteemed industry professionals, including RAC Arena’s Michael Scott, WAM board member Kristina West, artist manager Hayley Ayres (360 Artist Logistics), RTRFM producer Pamela Boland, and Kam Dheda, TEG Dainty’s general manager of touring.

RAC Stadium’s general manager, Michael Scott, expressed that he was “thoroughly impressed” with the four-piece’s application, adding that he looked forward to watching their career thrive with the aid of the awarded support fund.

“It won’t be long until they are the next big arena act, and we look forward to playing our small part in it.” He said.

Having launched during RAC Arena’s 10th-anniversary celebrations in 2022, Limelight offers recipients a range of career-boosting opportunities, such as radio campaigns, studio time, promotional support, and inclusion in major events like the West Coast’s WAMFest. Joining The Kickons in the spotlight as runner-ups are indie-folk artist Anna Schneider and dark wave pop group Gia Como. Both acts received runner-up prizes valued at $3,000 each.

The Kickons expressed their gratitude online, speaking of plans to use the grant to create a music video for their upcoming single, Bring Me Down Slow, slated for early February.

“This represents the biggest opportunity that we have ever had, and we could not be more thankful.”

The 12-month support for The Kickons will activate from January 1st, 2025.
