British legends The Cure have just announced their return through the release of their eagerly anticipated 14th studio album Songs Of A Lost World.
Fans witnessed a slice of the project through the single ALONE, which was previewed during The Cure’s 90-date, 33-country Shows Of A Lost World tour in 2023. The single opened each show across the tour, allowing fans to enter into the new sonic journey the band is embarking on.
Speaking on the single, The Cure frontman Robert Smith said ALONE is “ the track that unlocked the record”.
“As soon as we had that piece of music recorded I knew it was the opening song, and I felt the whole album come into focus,” he said in a press release.
“I had been struggling to find the right opening line for the right opening song for a while, working with the simple idea of ‘being alone’, always in the back of my mind this nagging feeling that I already knew what the opening line should be… as soon as we finished recording I remembered the poem ‘Dregs' by the English poet Ernest Dowson… and that was the moment when I knew the song - and the album - were real."
The rest of the tracklisting for Songs Of A Lost World is expected to be revealed over the coming weeks both on their social media and a specially customised website to cater to this next era. Fans can expect to treat their ears to the new album on November 1st.
