Australian indie rock mainstays The Clouds are celebrating their 35th anniversary with three exclusive headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane this coming November.
Made up of Jodi Phillis (guitar/vocals), Trish Young (bass/vocals), Dave Easton (guitar) and Raphael Whittingham (drums), The Clouds become a beloved pillar in the Australian alternative music scene over the course of their career, tapping into the hearts of discerning music lovers with their soaring harmonies, edgy indie pop sound and undeniable stage presence.
During the late 80s to early 90s, the band were well-regarded as promising up-and-comers, proving so with their rapid rise in the Australian music landscape soon after. Blending dreamy pop, angular rock and misty shoegaze with cosy melodies and pure poetic lyricism, the band would make continuous placements on triple j’s rotation.
The Clouds last toured in 2024, celebrating the highlights of their four albums Penny Century (1991), Octopus (1992), Thunderhead (1993) and Futura (1996). They released a vinyl box set featuring all four albums in April last year alongside their tour announcement.
The shows were some of the first for the band since they reunited in 2011, going on to release their first bit of music in 20 years with the 2017 Zaffre EP. The band have released three singles since 2017: Some About Your Love in 2021, Check Us Out in 2019 and Beautiful Nothingness in 2017.
For their upcoming shows, The Clouds will be performing their catalogue of fan-favourite tracks, including Hieronymus, Soul Eater, Anthem, Red Serenade, Cloud Factory and Say It. The band will kick off celebrations at Sydney’s The Metro on Saturday November 8th, before heading down to Melbourne to play Croxton Bandroom on Saturday November 14th, and ringing it in in Brisbane at The Triffid on Sunday November 15th.
