More Dua Lipa More Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa’s surprise song section on her sold-out Australian tour has indeed been packed with unexpected delights.

From the New Rules singer paying tribute to AC/DC, Natalie Imbruglia, Kylie Minogue, and INXS—as well as inviting Troye Sivan and Vance Joy to perform on stage—it’s fair to say that Lipa’s Radical Optimism Australian tour has blown away any expectations of her honouring Australian music.

Last night (28 March), the surprise song trend continued as Lipa played her second of three shows at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena. This time, she looked to one of her biggest influences and invited the mastermind behind Tame Impala, Kevin Parker, to the stage so the pair could perform the psychedelic rock hit, The Less I Know The Better.

As NME notes, last night wasn’t the first time Parker had performed with Lipa. The pair have a close professional relationship, and he was one of the lead producers on her latest album, Radical Optimism.

Along with co-writing and co-producing seven tracks on the album, Parker appeared by Lipa’s side as she headlined Glastonbury last year, where they performed her hit single Houdini and The Less I Know The Better together.

Lipa has previously discussed the impact of Tame Impala on her life, revealing that their album, Currents, has been the soundtrack to her life.

“It’s one of my favourite albums ever ever ever,” she said. “[It] was kind of like the gateway drug for me into Tame Impala. It completely changed my life, and so it was very, very cool to be able to collaborate with him [Kevin Parker] this way.”

Elaborating on how she’s always “admired” Kevin Parker as an artist, Lipa continued, “I’ve always looked up to [him] as someone that I’m really inspired by, and [he] has always been on my dream board of people to work with.”

She then talked about the pair’s natural musical chemistry, noting their surprise at “how well we just gelled in the studio and how well it worked and how fun it was to collaborate with each other. We’ve made some really fun songs.”

Dua Lipa’s Australian tour ends at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena tonight. For all dates, she’s been joined by homegrown singer-songwriter Kita Alexander.
