"Now is not the time to be putting everyone at risk for the sake of being nice."
Tame Impala’s long-awaited US tour in support of last year’s The Slow Rush is slated to kick off next month, and head of the run of shows, Kevin Parker has announced COVID restrictions will be in place for “everyone’s safety”.
Anyone in the US wanting to attend one of the shows on the tour will need to “prove either they are vaccinated or have tested negative for COVID in the last 48 hours”.
“I have talked about this with my cohorts extensively and whilst the last thing I want to do is divide people based on what they believe and don’t believe, now is not the time to be putting everyone at risk for the sake of being nice,” Parker said in a statement to fans.
“My beliefs on this matter align closely with the word of science, which is that the vaccine undeniably helps prevent serious illness and death from COVID-19. If this isn’t your view, I urge you to re-evaluate.
“I understand people have many different reasons for not choosing to vaccinate, and I feel for those who can’t because of medical reasons. Hopefully there’ll be a time in the future when it’s safe for you to come see us.”
Parker also noted that there was still time for some punters to get their jab before the show and said to “get a move on if you’ve just been putting it off”.
Tame Impala’s Australian album tour has been rescheduled multiple times due to COVID and is currently scheduled to kick off in December.
The Slow Rush was released in February 2020 to rave reviews and was named The Music’s Album Of The Week while also topping one of our best releases of the year lists.
