After announcing that South By Southwest (SXSW) will be leaving North American shores for the first time and expanding to Sydney, the showcase has quickly built a solid team to help bolster the move to the Southern Hemisphere. Their newest edition has just been announced as Pam Thornback, who will join the team as the Lead Marketing Manager.
Thornback joins the SXSW team after six years at triple j, where she led marketing, publicity and communication strategies for triple j, Double J and triple j Unearthed, including triple j's Hottest 100, One Night Stand, and Ausmusic Month. She also previously worked with SXSW General Manager Colin Daniels during their respective tenures at Inertia Music.
Her long industry experience puts Thornback in a great position to guide SXSW Sydney's creative brand development and spearhead the adaption of the global music powerhouse to the arts community in the South-Pacific.
On the announcement of the event earlier this year Geoff Jones, CEO of TEG, event producer for SXSW Sydney, said: “Put simply, SXSW is the Olympics of events for the creator industries, and we are thrilled to bring this legendary festival of gaming, music, screen, tech and innovation to Sydney in 2023.
"I want to thank the NSW Government and Destination NSW for their support. I would also like to thank Thea Jeans-Cochrane and Tony Cochrane from Cochrane Entertainment for their vital support and determination in bringing SXSW to Sydney.”
CEO and co-founder of SXSW, Ronald Swenson, stated: "We couldn’t be more excited and honoured to work with TEG and the NSW Government via Destination NSW on an event that brings the professional opportunities of SXSW to Australia.
"Sydney is the ideal city to serve as a home for the cross-collaboration that exists within the many industries we bring together.”
SXSW Sydney is set to run from Sunday the 15th of October to Sunday the 22nd of October 2023.
