More Smash Mouth More Smash Mouth

The award-winning, critically acclaimed burlesque Shrek parody Swamplesque is coming back to Australia.

The hilariously raunchy show is set to hit Melbourne this April and Brisbane this May, bringing laughs from Far Far Away. Punters, get ready to enjoy the camp-iest version of the iconic ogre, as he twirls and teases around the stage. And yes, it is 18+.

The winner of the Best Cabaret Weekly Award 2023 at Adelaide Fringe, the People's Choice Award 2023 at Wynnum Fringe, and the Best Cabaret Weekly Award 2020 at Perth FRINGE WORLD, Swamplesque is not to be missed.

It’ll be taking over Melbourne Town Hall during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, from April 17-19. Tickets are on sale now via the festival’s website, and range from $50pp to $69pp (an apt price, we say).

The Tivoli in Brisbane will be home to the show next, with Swamplesque playing there May 13-15. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster, ranging from $65 to $85.

The show boasts a star-studded cast, featuring Trigger Happy - described as the “Hot Mess of Burlesque” - playing Shrek himself. Alongside Trigger Happy will be the queen of cabaret comedy Tash York, internationally-acclaimed burlesque artist Rainbow, and the “Savant of Swear Words” BeBe Gunn.

Swamplesque will, of course, feature songs from the soundtrack of the original motion picture - which is an All Star affair (see what we did there?), with songs from Smash Mouth, Rufus Wainwright, The Proclaimers and more – becoming a cultural phenomenon, with many calling it “the best soundtrack of all time”.

And, soon after, the soundtrack to Shrek 2 also became a fan favourite, thanks in no small part to Counting CrowsAccidentally In Love and the fairy godmother’s perfect cover of Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For A Hero

Shrek (Music From The Original Motion Picture) hit #28 on the Billboard charts a mere two months after the premiere of the movie, and garnered nominations for both a BAFTA and a Grammy.
