Melbourne sextet Sordid Ordeal are readying themselves for their next big era, announcing both the release of their new single Tigress, and the launch of the Voice Of Melbourne.
Set for release on October 4th, Tigress is the first single from Sordid Ordeal’s upcoming second album, which is slated to be released next year. To celebrate, the group will be throwing a launch party at Stay Gold on October 19th, accompanied by some as-yet-unannounced supports.
Notably, the event also serves as an official launch for Voice Of Melbourne, a project that has been in the works for some time. Described as a “video broadsheet” designed “elevate the voices of people living in and around Naarm and other parts of Australia”, it’s going to focus on art, music, food, and culture of Melbourne and beyond.
It’s a fitting expansion for both the band and frontman Laurence Hewson. Making their official debut only a few short years ago in the midst of the global pandemic, Sordid Ordeal quickly made a name for themselves from a musical perspective thanks to their blend of expansive rock numbers and foly storytelling.
The group received wider attention thanks to Hewson’s status as a platform announcer for Flinders Street Station, with his charismatic presence, feel-good public addresses, and beloved voice making him a viral sensation as The Voice Of Flinders Station. His rising popularity not only resulted in national attention from the likes of The Herald Sun, The Age, and numerous television programs, but saw passengers plan trips to the Melbourne station to his announcements.
