Australian-born, London-based DJ Sonny Fodera cancelled shows on the weekend (11 and 12 October) due to ill health. Thankfully, he’s received a diagnosis and is on the mend ahead of his return Down Under.

“Hey guys. I am so sorry but I need to cancel my shows this weekend,” Fodera posted on social media ahead of the weekend’s shows.

He continued, “Amsterdam and Berlin, I love you, but I am really unwell and need to get better. I’m gutted. As you all know, I never cancel shows but health comes first. Venues will be going ahead with the night but please reach out to them for any refunds. I hope you understand.”

Overnight, Fodera revealed that he was referred to the hospital for suspected pneumonia, but luckily, he found out that he had a “really bad” chest infection, less dangerous than pneumonia. He also told fans that he’s “on the mend” and that his Australian shows, kicking off this Thursday, will proceed as planned.

“Little update from this side. I was referred to hospital for suspected pneumonia on Saturday,” he wrote. “It turns out it's a really bad chest infection (thank god) but still so horrible. I could hardly breathe and have never experienced anything like this!

“I’m on the mend now and will be flying to Australia for my shows this week. I just want to say thank you so much for all the supportive messages, and yes I am going to make my shows in Australia this week and weekend, see you all very soon. Grateful for health.”

Fodera is heading home after a landmark year that’s seen him start a five-month residency at Pacha Ibiza, launch his own festival at Silverworks Island, and earn a BRIT Award Song of the Year nomination for his world-dominating single, Somedays.

His Australian shows will take place at Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Thursday, 16 October, Melbourne’s The Timberyard on Friday, 17 October, and Sydney’s Roundhouse on Saturday, 18 October (sold out), and Sunday, 19 October. You can find last-minute tickets here.

Fodera made The Music’s list of Australian DJs making waves across the globe earlier this year, with music journalist Cyclone Wehner noting that his success has largely bypassed the Australian media. However, he became impossible to miss by 2022 after selling out two nights at Brixton Academy with his mate, Dom Dolla, as a special guest.
