Musicians around the world — particularly those involved in the drum-and-bass community — are mourning the death of Manchester producer Marcus Kaye, better known by his stage name, Marcus Intalex.

As BBC and others have reported, Kaye — who also worked under the moniker Trevino — passed away unexpectedly at the weekend, and no cause has yet emerged.

The producer had been scheduled to play a set at the Pickle Factory nightclub in London on Sunday as part of the venue's Soul:ution party but the gig was cancelled last-minute as news of Kaye's passing began to spread, with organisers only saying at the time that further information would be emailed to ticket-holders.

Kaye got his start in 1991 as a house DJ, and spent seven years from 1993 to 2000 co-hosting a drum-and-bass radio show, Da Intalex, with DJ Mark XTC. In 2001, he founded the record label Soul:R with fellow musician ST Files, and went on to help found dubstep and DnB label Revolve:R in 2003. In 2014, he started another label, Birdie, through which he released material as Trevino.

Under his various pseudonyms, Kaye released more than 20 full-length albums over the course of his more-than-25-year-long career. In his downtime, he was an avid golfer; in fact, his last tweet expressed excitement about playing gigs with fellow muso LSB, with time for "the obligatory round of golf".
