"It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members."
Snoop Dogg has today announced his acquisition of the iconic Death Row Records.
The rapper rose to fame during the 1990s under the imprint and has acquired the label from MNRK Music Group, which is controlled by private equity funds managed by investment firm Blackstone.
While the terms of the acquisition have not been specified, Snoop's takeover of the brand is also expected to see him acquire some of the label's music rights, including his own.
The announcement comes a mere days before Snoop appears as a part of the Super Bowl halftime show on Monday morning (Sunday local time) alongside Dr Dre, Eminem, Mary J Blige and Kendrick Lamar.
The label was founded in 1992 by Suge Knight and Dick Griffey alongside rappers Dr. Dre and the D.O.C.
It hosted some of the most influential hip hop albums of the '90s, including Dre's The Chronic, Snoop Dogg's Doggy Style and Tupac's All Eyez On Me.
