Simpsons Song Rights Sell For Big Bucks But Did Michael Jackson Write It?

Did the King Of Pop write this song?

More The Simpsons The Simpsons

The rights to novelty hit song Do The Bartman from iconic animated TV show The Simpsons has been sold to an anonymous buyer for a whopping US $38,500 (nearly $53,000 Aussie dollars) but it hasn't come without controversy.

Even die-hard The Simpsons fans may not be aware that the 1990 hit is a very valuable track, not only because it was a global hit, but also because the late Michael Jackson had a massive hand in the creation of the song.

As Music Business Worldwide report, the reason the King Of Pop was not acknowledged for his work on Do The Bartman by The Simpsons was because his exclusive contract with Sony Music forbid him to be credited.

And while the show’s creator Matt Groening has confirmed in the past that MJ did indeed write the song, the singer’s friend and songwriter Bryan Loren has disputed the claims.

"The story of the song and its creation has been a thorn in my side since I did it. But, despite Matt Groening's repeated confessions, I am the sole writer of the song," Loren said.

"While it’s true, along with me, Michael Jackson does sing backing vocals. And it WAS his idea to call the song, DTB. AND, he did insist I include his name in the lyric. Hence, ‘If you can do the Bart, you’re bad like Michael Jackson.’ And so, obviously, he was involved."

"Perhaps this tidbit of info is not as sensational as saying MJ co-wrote the song, but I assure you, he did not."

The anonymous buyer’s purchase of the track also includes royalties to a number of Loren’s other songs.
