Sabrina Carpenter is not having a rest. Less than a year after releasing her sixth album, the breakthrough Short n’ Sweet, released in August 2024, the Grammy-winning star will drop her seventh album on Friday, 29 August.
Carpenter’s new album is called Man’s Best Friend and follows the release of her latest hit single, the country-pop tune Manchild. The track was released just last week and saw her re-join frequent collaborators Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen.
The album announcement hasn’t arrived without controversy, however. Fans (and the panel on The View) have criticised the album cover, which shows Carpenter in a black dress and stilettos posing on her knees as a man in a black suit grips a fistful of her hair.
The album title itself could be ironic or satirical, but paired with the album cover and another image Carpenter posted of a dog wearing a collar with the tag “Man’s Best Friend,” it has been deemed demeaning towards women.

However controversial the album title and its songs may end up being, Carpenter likely has another world-dominating hit on her hands. You can pre-order/pre-save the album via Universal Music Australia.
Earlier this year, Carpenter released the deluxe edition of Short n’ Sweet—and took home the Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance (for the hit single Espresso). She recently headlined Primavera Sound music festival in Barcelona, and will headline Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza festivals in the US this year.
Last year, The Music started speculating about Carpenter’s return to Australia.
Carpenter made her Australian tour debut when opening for Taylor Swift on her Eras tour in Melbourne and Sydney, prior to the release of Espresso, Taste, and Please, Please, Please. Following those shows, she appeared on the Today Show and detailed her plans to return to Australia.
When Carpenter was asked if her Australian fans could expect future headline shows from her, she said that a tour is “very much happening.” Adding that dates weren’t finalised, but she was “definitely getting excited,” Carpenter said that her tour with Swift “made me want to come back ASAP.”
