‘Support Our Mates’: Roady4Roadies Crew Fundraising Events Confirmed

"For 20 months, turnover dropped by 95% and the expected results were devastating. We lost more than 80% of our casual staff."

Live music crew are some of the most unsung and under-appreciated people in the industry and have been some of the most significantly affected by the pandemic.

There are over 22,500 music crew in Australia that have lost work over the past two years and they've had very little support outside of Support Act and its Crew Fund.

Returning for another year, Roady4Roadies is a national event organised by CrewCare to raise awareness of the critical roles crew play, with all proceeds donated to the Support Act fund.

The events will take place in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart on Sunday, 1 May 2022, and Brisbane, Sydney, Darwin and Newcastle on Saturday, 7 May 2022.

They'll begin with a neighbourhood walk followed by live entertainment and family activities.

Mark Svendsen, Director of Gig Power, a specialist crew provider, highlighted the financial strain on crew members throughout the pandemic, stating, "The effect of COVID-19 on Gig Power and its staff has been profound. For 20 months, turnover dropped by 95% and the expected results were devastating. We lost more than 80% of our casual staff.

"In Victoria, the work is just starting to come back and we are struggling to find people. With only 100 staff on our books, those still with us are now flat out.

"We hope to bring new people in and lure some of our older staff back, but it will be a long road to recovery for Gig Power and the people who work with us."
