When it comes to dedicated young musicians committed to making an impact with their musical efforts, it’s hard to look past the likes of Naarm/Melbourne singer-songwriter Indiana Lewis.

It was just over a year ago that the musical world found themselves formally introduced to Lewis, with debut single TPS arriving in early 2024 and asserting her status as an artist with true performance.

While the single saw Lewis describe her life as a “typical pop song”, there was nothing typical about her sound. Inspired by names like First Aid Kid, Phoebe Bridgers and Nat Vazer, the track captured these indie influences and filtered them through the more upbeat pop vibes of names such as Olivia Rodrigo, Girl In Red, and Maggie Rogers.

Now, following a big year of musical growth (including an entry into triple j’s Unearthed High series, and performances throughout Melbourne and Adelaide), 15-year-old Lewis is back with her latest track, sharing the huge Pleaser today.

Working with producer Dean Tellegson at Wrangler Studio and featuring the mixing talents of leading Aussie producer Anna Laverty, the track is a monumental piece of emotional catharsis that harnesses a raw sense of vulnerability, anger, and self-realisation.

Utilising a quiet-loud dynamic that has swiftly become emblematic of Lewis’ music, it reflects an emotional push-pull of self-doubt and rage, beginning with introspection which soon builds to raw anger.

“It’s really about feeling like you’re expected to be something you’re not, and the emptiness that can come with that,” Lewis says of Pleaser.

The track also comes accompanied by a visual produced by Adelaide-based film maker Lucinda Corin. Filmed around the City of Churches, the clip represent the song’s themes of loneliness and longing, contextualising its meaning through the use of striking imagery featuring Lewis in a party dress while in empty, desolate spaces.

Lewis is already on track for a big year in 2025, and she’ll be showcasing what’s to come with an upcoming single launch for Pleaser next month. It’s taking place at Clifton Hill’s One2three Bar on the afternoon of March 16th, with free entry.
