Jimmy Buffett is enjoying Margaritaville as a newly-minted billionaire, while Jay-Z is officially the only rapper to feature on Forbes’ New Billionaires of 2023 list.
Kanye West has officially fallen off the ranks after Adidas severed their relationship with the Heartless rapper following his anti-semitic comments - his record label, Def Jam, also dropped him. Ye’s net worth currently sits at $400 million.
According to Forbes, a majority of Jay-Z’s fortune stems from lucrative liquor businesses. He also maintains a profitable music catalogue, stocks in TIDAL, and a fine art collection.
Jimmy Buffett, meanwhile, has built his billionaire status on his 1977 hit, Margaritaville, "tequila and beer businesses," restaurant chains, touring and album sales, a discography valued at $50 million, "an $140 million collection of six homes, four planes, and a yacht and shares in Berkshire Hathaway, the investment conglomerate run by Warren Buffett," Forbes report.
Another notable musician on the list is Rihanna, who has built a $1.4 billion empire on her music and her Fenty Beauty makeup line.
Back in 2014, Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band snuck into Australia for two secret shows.
The first show occurred at the Quiksilver Pro surfing competition at Snapper Rocks, where Buffett and band played an hour-and-a-half show in front of an estimated 1,000 people – believed to be one of the smallest shows the artist played in decades.
The following day, the Coolangatta Sands Hotel hosted Buffett and his band for a free show in the pub's biggest-ever Sunday session.
“It was a big night, lots of interest, the phone was running off the hook for almost two days,” Ben Otter from the Coolangatta Sands Hotel told The Music.
“It was all very last minute, we knew about 36 hours before he played, and we put it all together, and he came,” Otter said. “We had it on good advice that he was coming, and we met with his crew the day before; they're a very efficient bunch of people.”
