Stop Right Now: That Rumoured Spice Girls Australian Tour Isn't Locked In

This is not what we really, really want...

More Spice Girls More Spice Girls

There was hope that the Spice Girls would be bringing their reunion tour to Australia following comments from Mel B (real name Melanie Brown) at the weekend but it turns out Aussie fans may have to wait a bit longer.

The singer told the crowd at London's Wembley Stadium that "We'll see you in February in Australia" during the group's performance on Saturday but has since backtracked the comments during an interview with 2DayFM's breakfast team this morning.

According to Who, Brown said that she made the comment "without everybody else signing off 100 per cent" when asked by Grant Denyer if the tour news was true.

“You know me by now. I always say the Spice Girls are going to continue and continue and tour the whole world," said Brown. “My thing is, and I’ve got a bee in my bonnet about it, is that we need to come to Australia first out the gate. I announced it on stage, yes, without everybody else signing off 100 per cent, but I figured if I put it out there maybe it’s going to happen.”

When contacted by The Music, Live Nation and Frontier Touring declined to comment, while TEG Dainty are yet to respond.

Hope may not be entirely lost though, with Ticketek last week launching a waitlist for information about a Spice Girls Australian tour.

"Want to know when a Spice Girls tour hits Australia? Want to know when Spice Girls tickets go on sale?" the page reads, giving the option for fans to sign up now.

This would be the first Australian tour for the group, who went on an indefinite hiatus in 2000 before reuniting for brief stints in 2007 and 2012. The group have just wrapped a 13-date tour throughout the UK, with Mel B, Mel C (Melanie Chisholm), Baby Spice (Emma Bunton) and Ginger (Geri Haliwell).
