Is it Friday yet?
If you’re counting the seconds until the upcoming Tony Hawk's Pro Skater remaster drops this Friday, then newly released documentary Pretending I'm a Superman on the origins of the seminal series will be a welcome distraction.
The film, which quietly dropped two weeks ago, “tells the story behind the game that changed lives and shaped a generation” via interviews with Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Eric Koston, staff at Neversoft and, of course, musicians who featured on its iconic soundtrack, such as Goldfinger’s John Feldmann (the doco borrows its name from the band’s hit track Superman), Bad Religion’s Brooks Wackerman and more.
Its timing couldn’t be better, with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 being released on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on 4 September with an updated soundtrack that features its classic tracks alongside cuts from Aussie artists Alex Lahey, A Swayze & The Ghosts, Baker Boy and DZ Deathrays.
When the local acts were confirmed for the soundtrack back in July, Lahey sold The Music that “getting word that my song Misery Guts was going to be included in the relaunch of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+ 2 was honestly a career highlight”.
