"The message that we are bringing to our listeners is that for 60 thousand years, indigenous culture continues to stay strong."

First Nations/Meanjin based trio Tjaka have recently released gorgeous single Break It Down and today they're exclusively premiering its accompanying music video via Purple Sneakers.

Tjaka is an abbreviation of Tjakamarra, the skin name given to the two Fabila brothers and band members Geoff and Jake who are descendants of the Jabirr Jabirr tribe in Western Australia. Alongside their friend and guitar wizard Felix Fogarty, they make up Tjaka, who combine contemporary sounds in hip-hop and dance music with traditional story telling.

Break It Down reflects this sonic ethos, featuring a gorgeous blend of electronic and hip hop fusion with Aboriginal ancestral influence. The track introduces the use of didjeribone into contemporary genres along with Face Bass to honour culture through music.

The accompanying music video is a visual representation of the contemporary and traditional indigenous cultures, described by Geoff Fabila as, "The message that we are bringing to our listeners is that for 60 thousand years, Indigenous culture continues to stay strong."

The video was put together alongside Joshua Hickie and was shot on Yuggera and Turrbal land. It features dance Leelana Fabila-Hicks and Derek Sandy, showcasing contemporary culture through hip-hop dance.

Fabila continues stating, "The thinking through this music video was to best represent our song visually through dance and special types of shots. Throughout the video, there are cuts to both a modern style of dance (hip-hop) by an indigenous dancer [Leelana Fabila-Hicks] and cuts to traditional dance lead by Derek Sandy, a young cultural leader and teacher."
