“It is devastating news that a second person has lost their life."

A security guard working at London's O2 Brixton Academy is the second person to die following the crowd crush at an Asake concert last week.

Metropolitan Police confirmed that Gaby Hutchinson, aged 23, died in hospital yesterday after suffering injuries during the incident while working as one of the contracted security providers for the event.

“It is devastating news that a second person has lost their life following the events on Thursday,” Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove said. “I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to Gaby’s family at this unimaginably difficult time.”

Metropolitan Police confirmed they were “working hard to establish exactly what happened” and that the “investigation is large and complex”, with officers reviewing CCTV, phone footage, speaking to witnesses and conducting forensic examinations.

“At this time we have established that the two women and one man who were critically injured, including Rebecca Ikumelo and Gaby Hutchinson who have tragically died, were all in the foyer of the building," they said.

“A woman, aged 21, remains in hospital in a critical condition. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this incident.”

Following the death of 33-year-old London resident Rebecca Ikumelo over the weekend, Nigerian Afrobeats singer Asake said he was “devastated”.

"My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time," he shared. "Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening."

Police were alerted to a massive group of people trying to enter the O2 Academy on Thursday night without tickets.

The show was Asake's third and last show at the venue and the crowd crush occurred after he posted on Instagram that tickets were completely sold out.
