In surprising collaboration news, it's been revealed that Northlane vocalist Marcus Bridge and Kate Miller-Heidke have teamed up to rework her classic 2009 hit, The Last Day On Earth.
The new rendition of the beloved single features on the trailer of The Last King Of The Cross, a new Paramount+ Aussie series - a teaser is online now with the full trailer and, hopefully, the whole song, available on Thursday, 19 January.
With only a minute of the collaboration revealed, we hear Miller-Heidke's softest register and a piano contrasted with guitars entering the chorus and Bridge's soaring vocal intertwining with Kate's.
Miller-Heidke wrote The Last Day On Earth alongside her partner, Keir Nuttall. The track was the final song on her 2008 album, Curiouser. The song became an instant hit, debuting at #3 on the ARIA Charts and scoring a certification of 3x Platinum.
Northlane, meanwhile, scored #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with their 2022 album, Obsidian.
The metalcore album was named one of The Music's Best Australian Albums Of 2022, with us asking, "How does a band top their best album to date? How do go from tackling highly personal themes, such as intergenerational trauma and addiction, to come out the other side stronger than ever? You have to ask Northlane, because that’s what they did on their sixth album, Obsidian."

We added, "The #1 ARIA album is packed with complex progressive heavy songs with multiple layers and nuanced dynamics. Yeah, sure, this is ‘metalcore’, if you are desperate for a label. But it’s metalcore plus more. Much, much more.
"It’s metalcore plus electronica (Clarity), metalcore plus industrial (Carbonized, which also breaks up the industrial grind with a sweet, soaring chorus), metalcore plus unsettling noise and ambience (Obsidian), metalcore plus pop (Clockwork), metalcore that’s dancable (Is This A Test). It’s also metalcore plus a sense of flair and adventure, a need to push musical envelopes, a compelling desire to smash through constraints of genre and convention."
Northlane are on the inaugural Knotfest Australia line-up, performing alongside the likes of Slipknot, Parkway Drive, Megadeth, Spiritbox, and many more.
