Nick Cave has revealed that he is coming home for a national tour at the start of next year.

“Happily, I can report that The Bad Seeds are bringing the Wild God show to Australia and New Zealand in January,” Cave revealed on The Red Hand Files, where he communicates directly with fans.

“I’m not sure I am supposed to tell you this, but the tour will be announced next week,” Cave added. “It’s gonna be wild, and it’s gonna be big and it’s gonna be beautiful!”

On Friday (22 August), tour promoters Supersonic Billions revealed the tour will be announced on Monday, 25 August.

Cave confirmed the tour in response to a query from a fan named Geoff who lives in Wellington, near Dubbo in NSW.

“One of the pivotal moments of my early 20s was seeing you perform at Enmore Theatre, Sydney,” Geoff wrote. “My now wife stood me up for that performance, and I have always told her we need to see you perform together, as she does not know what she missed out on that night, but we live in rural NSW, and by the time we get word you are coming, it is always sold out.

“I don’t really expect a response to this, but if there is any way we can get advanced warning when you are touring Australia next, it would be very much appreciated.”

Not only did Cave respond, but he also offered the couple free tickets. “As I sit here, Geoff, watching the row boats go up and down the canal [in Plovdiv, Bulgaria], I can’t stop thinking about your letter and your long-suffering Nick Cave-impoverished wife and the sheer dearth of it all, and I can no longer tolerate it!

“Send me your email address, and I’ll put you both on the guest list for Sydney. Your dear wife’s going to fucking love it! Like I said, it’s gonna be wild and it’s gonna be big and it’s gonna be very, very beautiful!”

Another fan, Dee of Brisbane, asked Cave what he missed most about Australia.

“I miss everything,” the artist replied, “but most of all the Australian audiences. I miss stepping onto the stage and that singular feeling of recognition, of a spiritual homecoming, of circles closing, of the natural order of things returning to their rightful place, of big, fierce Aussie love.”

Wild God, the Bad Seeds’ 18th studio album, entered the Australian charts at number two.

“There’s no fucking around with this record,” Cave said. “When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it.”

“There is never a master plan when we make a record,” Cave added. “The records rather reflect back the emotional state of the writers and musicians who played them. Listening to this, I don’t know, it seems we’re happy.”

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds last toured Australia in January 2017. Nick Cave has been back home since then, however, touring solo in 2019 and 2024—the latter with Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood—and with Warren Ellis in 2022.
