They band calls their new image a re-birth

Returning after three years with a rejuvenated lease on production and the launch of their moniker, NYPC (formerly New Young Pony Club) have announced the October release of their third studio full-length.

The self-titled record marks the diversion back to an original band lineup of songwriting duo Tahita Bulmer and multi-instrumentalist Andy Spence, shutting themselves away for, and keeping the other members away from, what the duo describes as a “re-birth”.

Bulmer and Spence have been working on NYPC since 2011 – following New Young Pony Club's second record The Optimist in 2010 – bounding around ideas in their North London studio, and subsequently writing and recording its entirety in London, the band believes the offering is their most refined to date.

According to Andy Spence, the duo have been the core of New Young Pony Club ever since their debut LP in 2007.

“It feels like a new band in one way,” said Spence.

“But Ty and I had been writing for at least a year or more before anyone else had ever entered the frame – the majority of Fantastic Playground had already been written and recorded with just us. So it feels like we've just come back to the honest position where we've started.”

While drawing on the ground they've covered in their two previous full-lengths, NYPC says they have also delved into new territory – but only fans will be the judge.

Check out the first single from the record, Hard Knocks.

NYPC is out Friday 11 October through Cooking Vinyl Australia.
