The Sunshine Coast has a new festival on its shores: Alex By The Sea. Presented by Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club, it’s set to be a two day extravaganza of indie rock, good vibes, and salty air.

Slated for Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8, Alex By The Sea will take over Buhk Family Park at Alexandra Headland for “an epic outdoor mini music festival featuring an incredible home grown lineup.”

The lineup for the Saturday has just dropped, and is chockablock with beloved Aussie bands. Melbourne’s Slowly Slowly is set to headline the first day, joined by The Vanns, Headsend, and a few of the Sunshine Coast’s own - Betty Taylor, Pricey, Buttermello, and Nuffin Butta.

Sunday’s lineup is yet to be released, though it’s sure to be soon, as tickets for the festival go on sale this Thursday March 20 via Oztix. Proceeds from the festival will go towards the Surf Club’s very necessary lifesaving programs.

A post to social media reminds punters to “get ready for an unforgettable weekend of live music, beach vibes and good times for the debut of Alex By The Sea in the park!” It also warns that the festival is sure to sell out - so pre-sale is a must. Find details here.

2025 actually marks the tenth anniversary of Slowly Slowly. In a candid interview with The Music’s Tyler Jenke, frontman Ben Stewart revealed how the band has changed over the years.

“I'm quite certain that the currency of having a long career is staying true to yourself,” Stewart said. “So I'm always trying to find – whether it be a really micro decision or a macro one – what does my gut say? What is the right thing to do?”

“I feel like now I've almost forged that path to just follow my nose and create music, regardless of genre, because we've built a narrative around the band as opposed to like around a sub genre. It's not like, ‘Oh, this is an emo band, a pop punk band, a rock band, or an indie band’, it’s become ‘We are Slowly Slowly and the people that listen to us understand that universe that we've built inch by inch’.”
