There’s a new WA youth precinct set to open in Osborne Park early next year, with an outdoor live music venue to accompany its skatepark, BMX and parkour facilities.
Stompbox is the brainchild of Richard Kettle, and has already received $3 million in backing from the local business community with approval from the City of Stirling Council and plans to open in January or February 2017.
It will take over the old 14,000 sqm Schweppes complex near the corner of Harbourne Street and Scarborough Beach Road, with live music to be staged in the outdoor pop-up skatepark area, as its ramps slide together to create staging.
“You could hold concerts there for 800 – 1000 people,” founder and CEO Richard Kettle told theMusic.com.au.

“I’m really keen to spend a bit of time on pushing the music side of things, because it’s a key feature of why I wanted to do the whole thing.”
The complex will also feature recording studios, rehearsal spaces and act as a hub for young aspiring artist to meet and collaborate with one another.
While the initial construction costs have been covered, Kettle will be launching a Kickstarter campaign in the coming weeks that will assist in staffing the centre when it first opens.
