MorrisseyMorrissey has cancelled another show, this time in Spain, with a reason we’ve never seen before. He cancelled the show as he hadn’t gotten enough sleep.
The former frontman of The Smiths and solo artist was scheduled to perform at the Palau Des Les Arts in Valencia, Spain, on Thursday (12 March).
However, in a series of posts shared on his website, Morrissey informed fans that he was in a “catatonic state” after travelling to Valencia by road for two days and, upon trying to get some rest, found it impossible due to “festival noise / loud techno singing/megaphone announcements.”
“Having travelled for two days by road, Morrissey reached the hotel in Valencia late on Wednesday,” a post on the singer’s website reads.
It continued, “Any form of sleep or rest throughout the night was impossible due to festival noise / loud techno singing/megaphone announcements.
“This experience has left Morrissey in a catatonic state. Before leaving for tonight's scheduled concert, please check that the show remains possible under these circumstances.”
In a follow-up post, matters became even more confusing when the singer shared that the show had not been cancelled but that “circumstances render the show impossible.”
“Tonight's scheduled show in Valencia has been rendered impossible due to sleep deprivation,” the second post reads. “Morrissey drove from Milan to Valencia but has been unable to rest in Valencia due to noise.
“The show is not cancelled. Circumstances render the show impossible.”
In a third and final post, Morrissey described his hotel as “indescribable hell” and said it would take him “one year” to recover—an “understatement.”

“Morrissey has described his hotel on Plaza Manises as ‘indescribable hell. It will take me one year to recover. And that is an understatement,’ he wrote in the third post about the matter.
Morrissey cancelling a show isn’t all that surprising. A website that tracks every show he cancels exists, as the singer has cancelled, postponed, or performed abbreviated sets for 408 shows.
He has a 24% cancellation rate, and in less than three months of 2026, he’s pulled the pin on seven out of 21 shows.
Morrissey celebrated 40 years of performing with a tour of Australia in late 2023. The first show of the run, which took place in Perth, was cancelled due to “unforeseen logistical issues.”
The singer is currently touring in support of his new album, Make-Up Is a Lie.
