Highly regarded industry figure Millie Millgate has joined Support Act's board.

Millgate, who is the Executive Producer of Sounds Australia, has been appointed as a director, representing founding member AMCOS. She replaces Leah Flanagan on the board after Flanagan stepped down following a five year term.

Millgate spent over a decade working in booking (The Hopetoun and The Annandale Hotels) and artist management before working with organisations like Association Of Artist Managers and MusicNSW. She joined Sounds Australia in 2009 and is responsible for showcasing Australian talent around the world.

Millgate came in at #9 on this year's The Power 50 list, naming the 50 most influential people in the Australian music industry. Read her profile here.

“We are delighted to welcome Millie to the Board,” said Support Act chair Sally Howland.

"She has such an incredible breadth of experience in the music industry and has done an amazing job in promoting Australian music internationally through her work with Sounds Australia. She is a critical thinker with huge amounts of energy and a great personality, and we know she will be a great asset to the Board.”

“Support Act has always been an important organisation, however I truly hadn’t realised just how much so, until the singer/songwriter for the first band I ever managed was diagnosed with cancer in 2014," added Millgate.

"The care, attention and support shown to Ash, his family and friends during that critical time and when he passed was astounding to witness and really cemented my understanding of Support Act’s special and invaluable role in our sector.

“I look forward to playing a small role in the coming years alongside fellow board members and the incredible management and staff, as now more than ever before, significant and meaningful support for our industry remains paramount.”

This is the second new appointment to the Support Act board in the past month, with Jacqueline Purcell joining in early November.

They join Howland, John Watson, Sebastian Chase, Linda Courtney, Alethea Beetson, Karin Lines, John O'Donnell, Tom Larkin, David Albert and Lynne Small on the board.

By June this year, Support Act had seen a 700% increase in crisis support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Find out more about the organisation and how they are helping music industry workers here.
