Metallica frontman James Hetfield may be roaring to a 60,000-strong audience in Perth tomorrow night, but ahead of the first show of the tour, he went and visited Rottnest Island.

Perth Now reports that the singer and guitarist boarded a ferry to Rottnest Island on Thursday (30 October), just two days before the band’s first night on their M72 Australian tour.

A photo of Hetfield was shared on Metallica fan pages on social media. The singer was wearing a Black SabbathBack To The Beginning concert hoodie, aviator sunglasses, and a cap. He was also reportedly joined by his partner, Adriana Gillett. Keep an eye out for photos of Hetfield meeting quokkas.

Today, a pop-up store packed with M72 Australian tour merchandise opens in the heart of Perth to kick off the tour and treat fans to something special.

The store is home to exclusive items, including a black, red, and white splatter vinyl edition of Metallica’s latest album, 72 Seasons, as well as an exclusive screen-printed tour poster and t-shirt designed by Fremantle-based artist Ken Taylor.
