Metallica will be giving back and saving lives when they return to Australia in November.
Today, it’s been announced that the American heavy metal icons have joined forces with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, celebrating the lifesaving power of blood and plasma donors.
Enabled in partnership with Metallica’s foundation, All Within My Hands, fans who donate in select CBD donor centres in the week before each tour date will receive a limited-edition Metallica t-shirt.
The t-shirts will be available to donors who have already signed up or plan to register for Lifeblood’s loyalty program, Lifeblood Gifts, and donate on the following dates:
Perth Donor Centre: Saturday, 25 October to Friday, 31 October
Adelaide Donor Centre: Wednesday, 29 October, to Tuesday, 4 November
Melbourne CBD Donor Centre: Saturday, 1 November, to Friday, 7 November
Brisbane Donor Centre: Wednesday, 5 November, to Tuesday, 11 November
Sydney Town Hall and York Street Donor Centres: Saturday, 8 November, to Friday, 14 November
During the band’s recent US tour, Metallica and the All Within My Hands Foundation’s partnership with the Red Cross helped collect over 2,000 blood and platelet donations.

As a press release notes, just one donation can save up to three lives and help people living with cancer and immune deficiencies, as well as support new mothers, trauma patients, and people undergoing surgery.
Fans with tattoos wondering about their eligibility are advised that they’re “likely” to be able to donate, with plasma ready to donate immediately after a tattoo (as long as it was done in a registered tattoo parlour in Australia), and blood and platelets likely available to donate after a week.
Head to the Lifeblood website or call 13 14 95 to find out more about the initiative or make a booking.
“Metallica and their foundation’s commitment to making every tour stop a better place, by rallying fans to donate blood and plasma, is a selfless act that will have a lifesaving impact on so many individuals and their families,” said Australian Red Cross Lifeblood’s Executive Director of Donor Experience, Cath Stone.
Stone added, “With demand for blood at a 12-year high and plasma demand at record levels, we hope this partnership will fuel an influx of Metallica fan donors that we can welcome home to our donor centres.
“Don’t let blood donation be the day that never comes, because when you’re saving lives, nothing else matters.”
Metallica will return to Australia and New Zealand for the first time in 12 years this November, where they’ll perform in stadiums alongside special guests Evanescence and Suicidal Tendencies.
