MelvinsIf you like heavy, unrelenting rock music that makes your chest feel like it's about to cave in from the sheer power of it all, then you're most likely all over Melvins and Helmet.
They are two of the best rock bands to come out of the 90s (yes, we know they formed earlier…) and they're still going pretty strong, bringing all manner of brutality to the live stage after so many years.
Melvins formed back in 1983 and, for the past 30 years, Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover have kept the ship steady, making amazing heavy, sludgy rock music and enjoying a reputation as one of the most influential bands around. Their 1993 LP Houdini is one of the great heavy albums of all time, but they have 18 other records that show their versatility and brilliance as a unique rock band.
Helmet formed a few years later, Page Hamilton getting the group together in New York City back in 1989. They had their own classic record in 1992's Meantime and, thanks to that record and a fearlessly dominant live show, they set a bit of a benchmark for alt-metal bands from that point forward.
These two incredible bands play shows all across the country, thought there are a couple of exceptions…
Melvins are playing shows in Hobart and Fremantle without Helmet and will headline The Hi-Fi in Melbourne on Tuesday 17 December, while Helmet will headline that same venue the next night. Both acts also play the Meredith Music Festival.
Tickets for the club shows are on sale from 9am next Thursday 12 September.
