It appears that Netflix no longer want to help spice up your life, according to Mel B, who claims that a Spice Girls documentary with the streamer is no longer happening.

This month marks 30 years since the English girl group burst onto the scene, releasing Wannabe as their debut single on June 26th, 1996. Whether you were there at the time or not, the rest is history.

It topped charts around the world (their first of six to do so consecutively in their native UK), and debut album Spice performed similarly. Within months, they were household names enough for their popularity to be considered on par with The Beatles.

Three decades removed, it would make sense that some big plans are in the works, and while that still may be the case, Mel B (aka, Mel Brown or Scary Spice) now claims that a Netflix documentary won’t be part of it.

Responding to rumours of the documentary while speaking to Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid, Mel B simply stated, "Well, I don't think anything's happening.

“I think something was, but I don't think it's actually going to be happening now after all, which is a shame."

Pressed as to the reason why any potential plans may be canned, Mel B said, "I'll tell you in the dressing room!"

In April, Mel B appeared to have put a dampener on the idea of a documentary, and potentially pre-emptively explained why any rumoured talks with Netflix may have failed.

"I think we’ve all been asked and were all thinking about it at some point," she told HELLO! magaine. "But it has to be done in the right way, and it has to be honest – and not everybody wants to be honest."

Famously, the Spice Girls split in 2000, two years after the departure of Geri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice). A full-scale reunion took place in 2007 with all five original members, with a date in Sydney (which would have been their Australian debut) being cancelled.

A raft of reunions have taken place since, including a 2019 tour of Europe, though Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) did not take part in the affair. Further rumours of performances have risen to the surface since, though Mel B recently refuted the notion of another reunion occurring as part of this year’s anniversary celebrations.

“I can tell you it’s not happening,” she explained “If it does, it’ll be a shock to me, let’s put it that way. When I look at that [2019 tour] and at the feeling it gave me, I was in my element, but there comes a time…

“I’m 50,” she added. “You can’t be nagging everyone to go on tour if they don’t want to. I laid that to rest when I turned 50.”

Mel C (aka Melanie Chisholm or Sporty Spice) seems a little more hopeful, however, telling Smallzy in March that a reunion might still happen at some point.

"We are communicating all the time, we want to do something,” she explained. “Who knows when? But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future."
