“The decision to include ‘Ride The Lightning,’ a song I co-wrote with James, Lars, and Cliff, was to pay my respects to where my career first started,” said Dave Mustaine.

After releasing the lead single and announcing that their forthcoming album would be their last, Megadeth have unveiled the record’s tracklist.
This week, speculation about a cover of the Metallica song, Ride The Lightning, appearing on the tracklist surfaced on social media after the band themselves slowly revealed the album’s tracklisting, leaving some letters out of the song in a teaser.
Now, it’s confirmed, with the iconic American thrash outfit announcing the official 11-song tracklist, including a cover of Ride The Lightning.
The self-titled release is coming on Friday, 23 January, via frontman Dave Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in partnership with Frontiers Label Group’s new BLKIIBLK label. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.
Dave Mustaine co-wrote Ride The Lightning with Metallica bandmates James Hetfield, Cliff Burton, and Lars Ulrich. The song ultimately became the title track to Metallica’s 1984 album.
“As I come full circle on the career of a lifetime, the decision to include ‘Ride The Lightning,’ a song I co-wrote with James, Lars, and Cliff, was to pay my respects to where my career first started,” Mustaine revealed in a statement.

In October, Megadeth unveiled the first single from their forthcoming album, the ferocious Tipping Point.
Mustaine said of the track, “We all have different ‘tipping points’ and they may vary from day to day. I think we’re all being pushed to the edge right now, and it’s easy to lean into that feeling. But it’s important not to let things get you down.”
Back in August, Megadeth announced that next year, they’d release their final album and embark on their last tour.
Mustaine offered more details behind the band’s impending breakup on the band’s blog, revealing that Megadeth are in a unique position where they can “go out on their own terms on top.”
