The first celebrity has been revealed.

The Masked Singer Australia returned with a bang last night with over 800,000 viewers tuning in.

According to TV Tonight, the Channel Ten program claimed two spots in the evening's top 10 shows, with the reveal drawing in 823,000 viewers and the competition reaching 733,000 viewers.

While the program couldn't top Nine's Australian Ninja Warrior grand final, it proved to be tough competition for Seven's Farmer Wants A Wife.

The show, which debuted in Australia last year and sees 12 celebrities sing and dance while hiding their identities behind elaborate masks. It proved to be a ratings smash in 2019, with it claiming the spot as Ten's biggest show.

This year's first celebrity performer was revealed to be tennis legend Mark Philippoussis following his performance of George Michael's Faith as Echidna, with clues referencing his time on court, as a model, his sometimes "spiky" personality and his time on mid-2000s reality show Age Of Love.

"I was bummed, I'm gonna' be honest, I am competitive," Philippoussis told host Osher Gunsberg at being knocked out of the competition first.

"Who doesn't love to sing? I love music, it was an incredible adventure."

It's worth noting too that the show also claimed the top trending spot on Twitter last night too, with punters taking to the platform to share their guesses to who the contestants could be.

Guesses for Goldfish included Christine Anu and Lauren Burns, while Kate Miller-Heidke was picked as Queen, Mark Holden as Puppet and Eddie Perfect as Frillneck. Other guesses have included Hollywood actress Kate Walsh as Dragonfly.

While the team here at The Music didn't quite nail our guess for Echidna (we hedged our bets for it being Grant Denyer), we are feeling confident for a few others. Check out our guesses here.

The Masked Singer Australia returns to Ten tonight from 7.30pm.
