Australia is set to play host to one of the most diverse double-headers imaginable next year, with Los Angeles punk veterans The Bronx reviving their experimental side project Mariachi El Bronx for a special co-headlining tour.
Set to launch in early March, the four-date tour will see both acts on the bill as they hit up The Forum in Melbourne, King Street in Newcastle, The Roundhouse in Sydney, and The Tivoli in Brisbane. (Adelaide fans do miss out somewhat, however, with Mariachi El Bronx being absent from their February appearance at Port Noarlunga’s Nice Day To Go The Club festival in late February.)
“Australia! These days, one band is never enough—good thing we have two!” the band said in a statement. “Join us for the first-ever Bronx and Mariachi El Bronx Supershow! Two bands, one mind-exploding, style-bending, life-affirming set.
“Top tracks and deep cuts from both bands, plus new smash hits reimagined and performed by a 9-piece band! Rock ’n’ roll has never sounded so good!”
While The Bronx were first formed in Los Angeles back in 2002, and quickly established a reputation as one of the wildest, most intense punk bands on the scene, it was in 2007 that they decided to shake things up a little bit.

Drawing upon the band’s deep connection to the Hispanic music and culture of their LA home, Mariachi El Bronx was launched as a creative and experimental offshoot for The Bronx and quickly drew critical acclaim for the accomplished compositions they dished out under this moniker.
While the group would alternate between projects for live shows (and sometimes playing as both on the same day), the release of 2014’s third self-titled release saw the brakes pumped a little bit, with the project existing as just an occasional live entity since.
Now, they’re dusting off their charro suits again, announcing the release of their first new record in over a decade, with Mariachi El Bronx IV set to release on February 13th. It’s currently been four years since The Bronx released their own latest self-titled album, though history indicates we won’t be waiting too long for another helping.
“Punk rock and mariachi music are very similar in soul,” says The Bronx’s songwriter and lead vocalist Matt Caughthran. “It’s working-class music. It’s real music.”
Tickets to The Bronx and Mariachi El Bronx’s upcoming tour go on sale from 12pm local time on Friday, November 28th, with a Live Nation presale launching 24 hours earlier.
