Make Them Suffer couldn’t put on a show of their usual calibre in Cincinnati on Sunday (23 November) after co-vocalist and keyboardist Alex Reade departed the stage due to illness.
As setlist.fm notes: the Australian metalcore band played an eight-song set on Sunday, with Reade leaving the stage after the sixth song (Epitaph), and the band ending the show with one more song, Soul Decay. Make Them Suffer have been performing 10-song sets while opening for Fit For A King across the US.
Fans on Reddit also claimed that after Reade departed the stage, her bandmates left for a few minutes. Upon their return, lead vocalist Sean Harmanis apologised and told the audience that the band were fighting illness, and Reade had the worst of it.
The band seemed to try to finish the set without Reade, but after Soul Decay, told punters that they’d have to end the show there.
Make Them Suffer and Reade have since issued statements about what happened at the show, with Reade admitting that she began to “black out” on stage.
“Cincinnati, thank you for looking out for us,” the band said in an Instagram post. “Last night we had to stop our set early after Alex began blacking out.

“We’ve never had to stop a set or cancel a show in 10+ years of touring. It put us in a situation we weren’t prepared for and it wasn’t a decision we took lightly. Health always comes first. We had fun while it lasted and it was good to be back — we appreciate you more than you know.”
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Reade added, “Hey Cincinnati! Last night I was so sick on stage I had to leave the set/stage early which I have never had to do in my life and in almost 20 years of performing. I started to black out/pass out on stage, and as the set progressed, I was physically unable to stand and continue to perform before imminent collapse, my body was shaking.
“Cincinnati, I love playing your city. You always bring incredible energy. I’m sorry to let you down last night. We will make it up to you when we return again.”
Make Them Suffer wrap their US tour on 30 November. They’ll return home next month, perform at Good Things Festival, then head to the UK and Europe in early 2026.
In May 2026, the group will appear at the US festivals Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple, and in June, they’ll be back in Australia when they open for three huge Motionless In White shows.
