Beloved Japanese Australian punk trio Mach Pelican are back, today announcing their first new music in nearly two decades.

On Friday, 30 January, the band will release a brand-new 7-inch single, Remember It? on Side A and Summer Sun on Side B, via Cheersquad Records & Tapes.

Fans can purchase the new single in three limited vinyl variants: translucent red, translucent blue, and classic black. The release will be limited to just 100 copies each, while fans can also enjoy a worldwide digital release. You can pre-order your copy here.

Recorded with Paul Maybury of Rocket Science fame at Secret Location Sound Recorders in Melbourne, the two songs are described as capturing everything fans love about Mach Pelican, such as “high-speed energy, pop-soaked melodies, and those unmistakably catchy hooks.” A press release also describes the tracks as having “a perfect blend of nostalgia and fresh fire.”

To celebrate the release of their first new music in nearly two decades, Mach Pelican will host a Single Launch Party on Saturday, 31 January, at Melbourne’s The Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar. For the show, they’ll be accompanied by special guests Loose Lips and Elvis II – more details about the show will arrive soon.

Formed in Perth in 1996, the band relocated to Melbourne in 1998. After eleven years of touring and releasing music, Mach Pelican embarked on a farewell tour in 2007, playing their final show in Tokyo in September 2007. They’ve since reformed and played sporadically.

In eleven years, Mach Pelican played 800 shows and toured with bands including The Buzzcocks, Radio Birdman, Hard-Ons, Rancid, The Donnas, You Am I, and many others.

Their third album, Radio Action, arrived in 2006 and led to increased touring. However, they disbanded in 2007 due to personal differences and immigration difficulties.

The band then reunited for special shows, such as opening for The Gimmes at Melbourne’s The Tote in 2009. In 2011, they played a benefit concert for victims of the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami at the Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda.

Mach Pelican have reformed to play shows in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2024 (to promote the re-release of Radio Action), and earlier this year.
