"I’ll be working on it as fast as I can. These things do take some time. I’m not going to just throw some sloppy version of it out.”

As a rapper/comedian, Lil Dicky's live show and his television series, Dave, are very much played for laughs. But despite stretching himself to TV, US rapper Lil Dicky has more music up his sleeves that could be coming sooner rather than later.
In a new interview with Variety, Lil Dicky revealed that his first new music since 2015’s Professional Rapper will be coming to Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming services in the next two months.
The album will arrive in the form of a Dave soundtrack, containing songs and 30-second sketches of new music that’s only been teased across the three seasons of Dave.
“I realized [sic] this year, as I took a step back and looked at all the different music that’s made it into the first three seasons of the show, there’s enough here, a great body of work and a project that I can put out as a soundtrack,” Lil Dicky told Variety.
He added, “I think this is such a better representation of Lil Dicky, the musical artist, than, honestly, my first album even was."
15 to 20 songs are likely to make the album, which should arrive by the end of August. “The sooner, the better.” The challenge, however, is that “some of these things you’ve seen in the show are 30 seconds. That’s a little too short. It’s not as simple as ‘they all exist, and I can just put them on a thing, and boom, I can come out tomorrow.’ I want to do it the right way.

“And again, none of these songs were even mixed or mastered. But I’ll be working on it as fast as I can. These things do take some time. I’m not going to just throw some sloppy version of it out.” You can read Lil Dicky’s full interview with Variety here.
In The Music’s review of Lil Dicky’s show at the Forum in Melbourne in 2018, reviewer Tobias Handke watched as “He thanks the crowd for making his career happen and ends with his earliest release, Ex-Boyfriend. As the crowd slowly filter out, it's plain to see Lil Dicky has a solid fan base here in Australia, with few rappers able to mix comedy with hip hop as effectively and entertaining as the self-proclaimed ‘Professional Rapper.’”
