King Stingray have returned with Lookin’ Out, a joyous punk-rock tune written by a band “from a small place” who are “writing about big things”.

With a unique sound that blends ancient melodies, earnest harmonies, and rich surf rock hooks with the traditional instruments of bilma (clapsticks) and yidaki (didgeridoo), King Stingray have clocked up an impressive string of achievements in recent months following the release of their much-anticipated debut LP King Stingray, which dropped in August 2022.

Utilising the didgeridoo alongside guitars and drums, Lookin’ Out is Yolŋu surf rock at its finest. With the band members surfing or gazing at the ocean, sitting by a campfire and taking in awe-inspiring imagery from the Great Barrier Reef and the band's hometown of Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land, the band’s new single is all about unity.

On their first track since dropping their groundbreaking self-titled debut album, the band commented, "We have no idea what our future holds, but if we can find a way to work together, we’ll be on the right track," guitarist Roy Kellaway explained. "We are a band from a small place, and we’re singing about big things!".

In addition to their new single, King Stingray recently shared the mini Album Tour 2022 documentary, which you can watch below.

Earlier this month, King Stingray, the 2022 Australian Music Prize and ARIA Breakthrough Artist winners added another award to their shelves: first place in the Vanda & Young Global Songwriter’s Competition.
