"The tide is turning, but we want to ramp it up."

Sydney nightlife and hospitality figure Justin Hemmes has today announced a new programme which will aim to "rebuild" and revitalise Sydney's culture and nightlife.

Merivale's 'This Is Sydney' initiative, which will launch at Ivy tonight with a free set from hometown favourites The Preatures from 6pm, includes the push for free live music across the city, late night bite options, the introduction of Disco Espresso (the city's tiniest disco) at Will & Co on George Street every Thursday and Friday and the recently-announced introduction of the Poof Doof club night.

“We have a chance to create a vibrant future and rebuild our city to the world class destination we once were, and can be again," Hemmes said.

"This is about creating a safe, fun and diverse culture that sees our CBD streets brimming with light and life at night. The tide is turning, but we want to ramp it up.

"‘This is Sydney’ is fuelled by a desire and passion to make Sydney the best place it can possibly be, with great food, live music, dancing, excitement and surprise every night of the week. Let’s get out, have fun and enjoy our spectacular city."

As well as the return of established club nights like RNB Fridays and Marco Polo, Merivale will also soon open the doors to new restaurants including Bar Totti's, serving wood-fired bread and antipasto, and Jimmy's Falafel.

“We want to create a diverse night-time economy that echoes the 24-hour sophistication and fun of the best places around the world”, Hemmes said.

“Warm, inclusive, organic interaction and enjoyment, which is something all world-class cities excel at."
