Jewel OwusuRising star Jewel Owusu is set to perform in one of the most iconic venues in her home city of Melbourne this month.
This Friday, 12 June, she’ll take over Palais Theatre, performing on the Foyer Stage, as part of Live Nation’s Next On Series. She’ll be joined by independent alt-pop artist Toy Shaw, also hailing from Melbourne.
Recognised for her music that firmly sits in an in-between space – showcasing different sounds, cultures, and shining the spotlight on evolving versions of herself – Owusu creates alternative, electronic-focused indie pop music that’s simultaneously confessional and layered.
Born in Hong Kong, raised in New Zealand, and now based in Melbourne, Owusu’s sound is packed with life experiences shaped by movement and diverse inspirations. The Filipino-Ghanaian artist and producer is also gaining buzz, following the release of her recent EP, the end of everything.
Owusu has long been an artist to watch, having recently performed at Beyond the Valley, Pitch Music & Arts Festival, and St Kilda Festival, to name a few, as well as international shows and regional tours.
You can secure tickets before the event takes place on the Palais Theatre website.
Live Nation announced its Next On initiative to support artists last November.

Venues involved in the initiative are Melbourne’s Palais Theatre, Brisbane’s The Triffid and The Outpost at Fortitude Music Hall, Thirroul’s Anita’s Theatre – King’s Room, Adelaide’s Divide at Hindley Street Music Hall, and the Tuning Fork in Auckland, New Zealand.
Every month, local talent will have the opportunity to be part of a showcase at the promoters’ premier venues.
Local artists will have the chance to set their ticket prices, keep every cent of their ticket and merchandise revenue, and be backed by Live Nation marketing and networking. Artists will also receive PR support, professional photography, and career development opportunities.
The first batch of artists participating in the program was revealed in February. It included four-piece indie rock band Peach Fuzz, country rock artist Robbie Mortimer, and award-winning Māori neo-soul artist MOHI.
