"I feel like I'm going from one iconic Brit to an iconic British franchise."

Just months after taking out the Oscar for Best Actor with his flawless performance of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, Rami Malek will take on another massive role as the villain in the new James Bond film.

Principal photography for the 25th movie in the legendary series will commence in Jamaica this weekend, with Daniel Craig to return as 007 for the fifth and final time.

Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective, Jane Eyre) will direct, while Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear and Léa Seydoux are all confirmed to return.

The synopsis for the film tells us that "Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.  His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology".

Appearing on Good Morning America this week, Malek said the new role is the "perfect" follow up to Bohemian Rhapsody.

"I feel like I'm going from one iconic Brit to an iconic British franchise," he said.

Following his Emmy-winning turn in Mr Robot, Malek's performance of the late Queen frontman was praised by critics and fans and led to a BAFTAs and Golden Globes win, as well as the coveted Oscar.

Malek will now gear up for Bond 25, following a string of notable names who have taken on the villain role in past films including Christoph Waltz, Christopher Lee, Sean Bean, Christopher Walken, Javier Bardem and Benicio Del Toro.
