Replacing the site's predecessor - the famous HQ Nightclub - the birth of Hindley St Music Hall has undertaken a complete revamp with over 135 tonnes of concrete and furnishings removed from the site, bidding the nightclub farewell to make way for a exemplary centre for live music. Ripping it down from the inside and starting from scratch, the interior has been completely remodelled to reflect the layout of it's sister venue, the Fortitude Music Hall, mirroring its split-level viewing design and expansive balcony area wrapping around the space.

Accessibility and inclusivity were two major priorities positioned a the forefront of the building's renovation plan. Peter Malinauskas, Premier of South Australia, said in a recent interview with CityMag in the lead up to the venue's grand opening: “The Hindley Street Music Hall is a great boon for the South Australian music and hospitality sectors."

"Not only does it deliver a state-of-the-art venue in the heart of the city, but it will provide South Australians with career pathways in both the music and hospitality industries. Further, with the Hindley Street Music Hall now open we hope to see more and more international artists and performers return to perform in South Australia.”

But beyond the buzz of the brand new venue, at the heart of Hindley St Music Hall’s venture as one of Australia’s iconic live music destinations is the aim to prove to interstate and international artists that Adelaide is a city worth touring to, and to offer a venue artists will love to perform at.

In the hope to further reignite South Australia’s capital as a star on Australia’s map for music and the arts, Hindley St are delivering an answer to a venue size gap within the local industry. Sitting between venues like The Gov (700 capacity) and venues like Thebarton Theatre (2000-3000 capacity), Hindley St Music Hall will now act as a middle stepping stone, offering the opportunity for large name artists to add Adelaide into their circuit, yet allowing patrons to still experience the feeling of an intimate live show.
