Nominations were announced Saturday afternoon, Australian time.
The nominees for the 2014 Grammy Awards were unveiled today, Australian time, with a few local acts and one very popular New Zealander all scoring recognition in the world's biggest music awards.
Lorde has picked up three nominations for her smash hit song Royals, the track nominated for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. The 17-year-old New Zealander performed the song at the nomination ceremony, which was beamed live around the world.
ARIA Album Of The Year, Tame Impala's Lonerism, scored one nomination in the Best Alternative Album category, taking on Vampire Weekend, Nine Inch Nails, Neko Case and The National in that category.
Perhaps the most surprising Aussie nomination, however, comes from Melbourne's Hiatus Kaiyote, whose song alongside hip hop legend Q Tip, Nakamarra, has been recognised as one of the Best R&B Performances of the year.

In the classical sphere, the Australian Chamber Orchestra picked up four nominations for their recording Winter Morning Walks, featuring soprano Dawn Upshaw.
The work itself is nominated for Best Contemporary Classical Composition, while Upshaw is nominated for Best Classical Vocal Solo. Other contributors David Frost, Tim Martyn and Brian Losch are nominated for Best Engineered Album (Classical), and the album's producer, Frost, is nominated as Classical Producer Of The Year.
The awards take place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Sunday 26 January; could it be a happy Australia Day for the two Aussie artists nominated?
