Aussie Stars Score Golden Globe Noms Alongside Trent Reznor, Andy Samberg & More

The nominations for the 2021 Golden Globes Awards have been announced today which feature some local talent, some comedy favourites and even some heavyweight music names. 

Aussie stars Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett both scored nominations in the same category - Best Performance By An Actress In A Limited Series Or A Motion Picture Made For Television - for their work in HBO's The Undoing and FX-produced Mrs America respectively.

Today's news sees Kidman now have 16 nominations to her name overall (with five wins), while Blanchett's tally hits 11 (with three wins).


On the comedy front, Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti-led film Palm Springs was recognised in the Best Motion Picture — Musical Or Comedy category, while Samberg also picked up a nomination for Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture — Musical Or Comedy.

Meanwhile, Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat sequel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, received three nominations, including Best Motion Picture — Musical Or Comedy, Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture — Musical Or Comedy for Baron Cohen and Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture — Musical Or Comedy for breakout star Maria Bakalova who played Borat's teenage daughter.

Adelaide-born singer Sia's controversial film, Music, also received a nomination in the Best Motion Picture — Musical Or Comedy category, while lead Kate Hudson picked up a Best Actress nod.


Nine Inch Nails' members Trent Reznor and Atticus Rose picked up two nominations for Mank and Disney's Soul in the Best Original Score — Motion Picture category after previously winning the same award for The Social Network in 2012.

Reznor and Rose were also nominated for the gong in 2011 for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, however they did pick up the award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.

Grammy Award-winning singer HER was also recognised, picking up a nomination for Best Original Song — Motion Picture for Fight For You from the forthcoming Judas & the Black Messiah due out in Australian cinemas in March.


Ten-episode miniseries The Great, based on Aussie screenwriter Tony McNamara's Catherine The Great play which premiered at Sydney Theatre Company in 2008, also scored three nominations including Best Television Series — Musical Or Comedy.
