International Music Conference Coming To Geelong

The world’s largest gathering of the folk music industry and community will take over Geelong next March.

FAI ExChange will set up in the town from 2-4 March as a precursor to Port Fairy Folk Festival; an annual festival that was established by the Geelong Folk Club in 1977.

The news comes as Port Fairy Folk Festival unveils its 2020 line-up, set to take place from 6-9 March, and as it partners with US-based organisation Folk Alliance International.

Designed to “strengthen and preserve global folk music”, FAI ExChange will see a number of industry figures and more take part in keynotes and forums at Geelong Library and Heritage Centre during the day, while artists showcase across the town at night.

“Geelong is booming with a dazzling renaissance of new young energy, culture and ideas,” Port Fairy Folk Festival founder Jamie McKew said.

“We are truly excited and honoured to be chosen for the next featured international FAI ExChange right here in a bunch of our favourite venues.

“Having just attended the Folk Alliance International conference in Montreal, I can only marvel at the musical force for true humanity that this largest folk music organisation so beautifully creates. Just jump on board and be a part of this brilliant project."

It’s expected more than 100 delegates and 36 artists from across the globe will make the trip, with showcasing acts selected by FAI and PFFF, who will place a strong focus on regional Victorian talent.
